Hilcote residents visit Kate Morrell for a willow weaving Masterclass!

Inspired and fired up from their recent *Enchanted Garden project, residents from Hilcote were keen to visit renowned willow sculptor Kate Morrell for a special willow class in her studio.

On the 8th October, 4 residents headed off to Coaville in Leicestershire and quickly got settled in with Kate in her lovely home studio. Having had recent experience of creating willow tunnels and a dome the group were keen to learn more about sculptural forms. On the day they worked hard to create an animal each.

Mick, one of the founding members of H.E.L.P (Hiclote’s Leisure Project) who took part in the day said ‘We had such a fantastic day, it was great fun and we all had such a good time. Kate is an excellent teacher, how she teaches you is brilliant. Time flew by! We want to thank Greater Creative for giving us this opportunity’

Since this trip, Greater Creative have supported Mick to buy a small stock of willow and light tools for him to practise and then go on to host willow making sessions at the local pub, the Hilcote Arms. Mick is currently preparing and planning the sessions to take place for the New Year (if not before!) for the wider community.
