Create a Crest!

Here's our latest creative community project 'Create a Crest!' in partnership with The Pottery in Alfreton. We're providing a large number of clay tiles that will be decorated by local residents, mounted together and installed in each corner of the parish to celebrate and commemorate our community spirit. We aim to install them in brighter days for all to see to mark this time in our Parish as a part of our history.

Tiles will be dropped off in a number of locations in the parish for you to collect and deposit safely whilst we still maintain physical distancing. Locations are as follows:

Newton: 6 Cragg Lane (Tony) Hilcote: 1 Fairfield Ave (Brian) Westhouses: 7 School Close (Pam) Blackwell: 95 The Ridge (Jodie)

We're really pleased to be able to work with Dave and Nic Wadsworth from The Pottery in Alfreton on this project. Dave is the 12 year proprietor of ‘The Pottery & Tearooms’ in Alfreton. As a 2nd generation Wadsworth potter he is known for his distinctive unique green glazes, sought after stoneware & one-off pieces which are crafted & inspired through medieval & Japanese techniques.

Both Dave and Nic are regularly commissioned for commercial & private work as well as selling his ceramic ranges in his shop & various national outlets. Dave describes working with children as the favourite part of his job "because they have the best imaginations to work with". The pottery holds weekly clay club sessions for children & classes for adults. Dave and Nic also take their mobile potters wheel to schools & health care settings regularly to deliver therapeutic & complimentary curriculum work in schools.

Dave and Nic have been involved in several local socially motivated projects, from creating church fonts, spectacle sculptures for care home gardens, ‘Made in Derbyshire promo’ & ‘act for change’. Dave and Nic were lead artists in the CEP Black Shale’s project ‘Our Cultural Exchange through The Arts’ reaching 160+ children & created some beautiful pieces with the participants.

Keep a look out on our website and social media channels to find out when the tiles are available for collection!
